SPIDERVERSE

Welcome back, do you feel like learning more about geometry? Well, here we go!

Without departing too much from the previous entry as we are going to continue with the cinema, the time has come to talk about the latest Spiderman movie, "Spiderman no way home". I don't know if you have already seen this film, but if not, I recommend that as soon as you finish reading this post, you go and do it, because you won't regret it, and even less if you consider yourself a Marvel fan.

Well, without going too far into the film to avoid spoilers, I'm going to talk about one of the moments in which geometry is most present in the whole film. There is a moment in which Spiderman (Tom Holland) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) travel to a mirror dimension, where they can fold and deform space with total freedom?

That's the crux of the matter, because although in the film we are led to believe that it is magic done by Doctor Strange, the reality is totally different. In reality, mirrors can be related to geometry to work with symmetry, so you don't have to think too hard to understand that in this parallel Marvel reality, something similar happens.

In this photo we can see how Doctor Strange mirrors reality, using axial symmetry, as the buildings seen in one plane are the ones reflected in the other. And although geometry is very important, it is not the only mathematical field used to solve this enigma and get out of this mirror reality, and the laws of physics are combined with geometric principles to achieve this.

Another example can be seen in this photo, in which, starting from a point X, there is a triangular reflection of reality. Through the central point of the triangle, which we call X, reality is reflected in perspective, thus making the spectator feel diminutive in front of reality and the large dimensions that open up space, making the mirror reality and these symmetries make the spectator see more clearly the oppression that the scene transmits, on entering a loop from which there is no way out.

And although we could continue analysing the scenes of the whole time that the mirror reality lasts, it is in these two scenes where we can see more clearly the idea that is tried to represent the images and reflections that this projected reality gives.

So this is the end of today's entry. I hope you have been able to understand a little more about the reason for the use of mirror reality, and that those of you who have not yet seen the film will be able to understand it without any problems.

See you next time!
