As we have discussed in previous blog posts, we already know what geometry is, and today we are going to learn a little more about it, albeit in a fun and not at all theoretical way.
Put on your boots and shin guards and start warming up because it's time for FOOTBALL!⚽
Could you imagine that football and geometry could be related?馃く When I first heard about it, I couldn't believe it! My coach talked a lot about triangulation, but of course, you don't think that football is related to maths!馃う♀️馃う♀️
But well, before we start, and although many of you know what it is, it is worth remembering what football is, that is a team sport, whose appearance dates back years ago and where today, 11 to 11 players play against each other with the aim of scoring as many goals as possible and keeping a clean sheet, or at least, scoring more goals than the other team.
And this is where the cool part comes in, the triangulations. These consist in the fact that there must always be three players forming a triangle on the pitch in order to be able to circulate the ball. Although if possible, the more triangles there are the better, as they allow the game to have a greater fluidity, preventing the opposing team's players from cutting off the passes, and thus getting to the goal as quickly as possible to try to score.
Although it is not the only place where we can see or observe aspects related to geometry, the whole pitch is a sum of geometric elements combined. And not only the pitch, but also the ball itself has its corresponding geometric shapes.
Talking again about triangulation, it is not something that is used by any team and goes unnoticed, but all teams, or almost all teams in the world follow this line of play, making it one of the strategies that gives the best results from the moment the ball starts to roll, until the final whistle is blown.
Did you enjoy today's post? I hope so, and that you were able to learn new things about football that you will enjoy more.
Finally, here is a photo of a poster I made where you can see the direct relationship between football and geometry in a more visual way.
The poster is made with a tool called Piktochart, in which it is possible to make a multitude of posters, presentations or posters among many other things, which make it possible for people of all ages to use electronic tools to develop new skills, and to work in a more innovative way.
