SPORTS

It is true that we have already talked about football, however, it is not the only sport that exists, so it cannot be the only one in which geometry is involved, do you think the same as me?

I do, don't I? I would expect no less from you.

But what sports can we talk about? Well, any sport you like: handball, basketball, tennis, golf, athletics, ballet or even climbing.

The truth is that the more I researched the more I was surprised, so I couldn't not share this with you, as I know that you are going to enjoy it as much as I do, as well as everything you are going to be able to learn in one place, without having to do individual research for each of the sports. So here I am to try to help you!

Of course, there are a multitude of sports and it is impossible to talk about all of them, even so, I am not going to leave you in suspense and I am going to name a few of them and their relationships with geometry itself, so here goes:

  • Tennis馃幘→ this sport has a very old history, and perhaps what you are about to read may seem very strange to you. In the 19th century this sport was already played, and an object called a sextant was used to measure the inclination of the sun, which was measured in degrees, and due to the use of this, nowadays a set is played in 6 games. And the points (0, 15, 40, 45) are taken from the degrees measured by the sextant throughout the game, although initially it was not 45 but 60. In other words, everything related to tennis has an earlier relationship with angles. Besides the fact that the court itself is made up entirely of quadrilaterals.

  • Athletics馃弮‍♀️馃弮‍♂️→ this sport is so complete and has so many branches that it is impossible for geometry not to be integrated. However, in order not to be too heavy and not to overload myself with too much information, I am going to focus on the hammer and discus sectors, where the degrees and angles used to measure them are decisive:

  • Ballet馃┌ → in ballet, the conception of space is very important, both for choreographers and for dancers in which the movement is drawn in straight, and the movements are made by means of translations and turns.

  • Basketball馃弨→ the entire basketball court itself is made up of different geometrical compositions: rectangles, semicircles, segments, circles, etc. On the other hand, there is the ball itself, which is shaped like a sphere, a sphere that forms perfect angles, and which is divided with segments to give it its characteristic shape.

And as I said before, there are so many sports, so if you want to know about any other that I haven't mentioned, let me know in the comments and in future posts you will continue to discover them.
