Welcome to Geoverse once again!
In today's post I'm going to tell you how to play a very cool game that a friend of mine explained to me a few days ago.
It is a game that they made in her class to work on symmetry, although it is done in a dynamic way, putting the exercises and representations into practice, since seeing things represented graphically makes them clearer.
But before we start the game, do you know what symmetry is? I'm going to explain it to you in case someone doesn't know it, so that the rest of you can review it.we say that a figure is geometric when we can divide it into two or more parts but all of them coincide in shape, size and properties, as we can see in the following figure:
Once you know what symmetry is, I could explain that there are several types and their characteristics, although for the game it is not necessary, so I will list them very briefly. We have axial, central or rotational symmetry, among others, which are applied depending on the function or objective that we are trying to achieve at any given moment.
And now that you know the fundamental concepts, it is time to explain the game. To carry it out, we need to divide the class into two groups and form two circles, one inside the other, so that once formed, everyone is facing the people in the other circle.
Once the circles have been formed, the teacher takes out cards with geometric figures (there must be at least one of each in each circle) and distributes them between the two circles. And that's where the dynamic begins. The people inside the circle make geometric figures imitating the ones on the card and have to look for the people who have the symmetrical figure. With the complication that once the partner is found, the game does not stop, but everyone goes through all the people, and once the round is over, they have to try to find their partners, trying to make sure that as many people as possible have been able to find their partners, which is complicated, as people have no more than 10 or 15 seconds to try to find the symmetry.
And the best thing about all this is that it can be done not only with simple geometric figures, but also with a wide variety of figures, such as characters from films or video games, among other options.
Did it ever occur to you that you can learn geometry like this?
I had never heard of it, but when he explained the game to me I liked it so much that I have no doubt that when I become a teacher I will use it with my students.
And this is the end of today's post, I hope you enjoyed it. See you soon!
